About Matt

Matt grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. He is the eighth child of nine. His dad was a very successful criminal defense and plaintiff’s personal injury attorney. Three of Matt’s older brothers are also trial lawyers.

He is a graduate of Creighton University in Omaha. He received a bachelor’s degree in English, where he concentrated his studies on creative writing and European literature.

In 1991, he graduated from Creighton University School of Law, and took his first job as a law clerk for the Nebraska Supreme Court.

In 1992, Matt joined an Omaha firm specializing in plaintiff’s personal injury and litigation, where he practiced with, among others, two of his brothers.

In 2007, he opened his own solo practice. He continued to focus his practice on plaintiff’s personal injury work and representing people injured due to systems failures. He has represented clients in workers’ compensation, automobile collisions, trucking cases, construction site injuries, medical and dental malpractice, premises liability, swimming pool injuries, wrongful death of adults and children, and complex plaintiff’s personal injury claims.

His professional passion is trial work. He graduated from the Keenan Trial Institute undergraduate classes and began teaching for KTI in 2019. He is an instructor of Focus Groups and Voir Dire. Matt is always working to improve himself and learn more about his cases. He generally conducts eight case-specific focus group sessions per month. He has had over 70 jury and civil bench trials.

Matt has been licensed in Nebraska since 1991, and became licensed in Iowa, in 2019. He continues to handle cases across the Midwest, including Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota.

Matt is married to Peggy and they have four children; Jack, Grace, Caroline and Michael. He remains passionate about spending his time with his family. He is a volunteer soccer coach. He enjoys running short-distance triathlons. He is a licensed, private pilot. He dedicates at least five hours per week volunteering to help others with addiction recovery.

Matt is currently writing a book detailing a murder case from the 1970’s.
